Competa is one of the most interesting villages in the district and lies on the southern slopes of the Sierra Almijara, at a height of 650 metres above sea level. There are many springs and streams that bring water down to the village from the mountains,

This is an important wine producing area and the wineries of Competa are famous for producing some of the finest Malaga wines. The main festivals are "San Sebastian" the Patron Saint of the village and this takes place each year from June 22nd to June 25th.
Others are the "Day of the Cross" on May 3rd - "Day of the Virgin" September 7th and 8th.
"Night of the Wine" (book early!!!) August 15th. The Night of the wine attracts thousands of visitors from the surrounding area and is wonderful occasion.
The village enjoys good modern amenities such as Supermarkets, fresh bakery and of course the best locally grown produce. There is a good selection of bars and restaurants and the prices remain far lower than those found in Northern Europe.
